Description
The Texas Instruments CD4017BE is a CMOS IC chip which consists of a 5-stage Johnson decade counter and a 10-stage decoded output counter. This chip is designed to count up to 10, making it ideal for use in applications such as frequency dividers, time delay circuits, and frequency synthesizers.
The input signal to the CD4017BE is applied to the clock input (pin 14), which then sequentially increments each output pin (pins 3 to 11). This counter is reset back to the first output pin (pin 3) by applying a reset signal to the reset input (pin 15). The decoded output of the counter is available at pins 5, 1, 6, 2, 7, and so on, with each output being active high when its corresponding pin is high. The CD4017BE has a wide supply voltage range of 3V to 15V and can operate at frequencies up to 5MHz, making it a versatile chip for many engineering applications
