Description
The Texas Instruments SN74LS164N is a popular 8-bit shift register chip that operates on a supply voltage of 5V. This chip has a maximum clock frequency of 35 MHz and can shift data in either serial or parallel mode. In serial mode, the output from one register is shifted into the input of the next register in line, while in parallel mode all the bits are loaded into the shift register at once.
The SN74LS164N has three primary inputs: SER (serial input), RCLK (register clock), and SRCLR (shift register clear). SER is the input pin for the serial data that is to be shifted into the shift register. RCLK is the clock signal that determines when the data is to be latched into the shift register. SRCLR is a clear input that resets the shift register to all zeros.
The outputs of the SN74LS164N are eight Q pins, which represent the output bits of the shift register. These outputs are updated when the data is latched into the shift register. The SN74LS164N is a versatile chip that is widely used in various electronic projects, such as LED matrix displays, shift registers, and control circuitry. With its low power consumption and high speed operation, this chip is an excellent choice for many digital circuit applications
