Description
The NXP 74HC4017D is an integrated circuit (IC) that is designed to function as a 10-stage Johnson counter, or a decade counter, or a de-multiplexer. The IC is fabricated using CMOS technology and operates on 2 volts to 6 volts. The device consists of ten output pins, each associated with a specific stage of the counter, and can drive relatively high loads such as transistors or relays. The device has a maximum clock frequency of 24 MHz and consumes a low power of 4μA in standby mode.
The 74HC4017D operates as a ripple counter where the clock signal is provided to the input pin. The device can count up to ten consecutive pulses, and then it resets itself and starts counting again from zero. The demultiplexing function can be implemented by connecting the AND gate's input to the current output and the remaining output of the 4017 to the gate control terminal of the transistors. When the clock pulses are applied, the output transistors shift the input signal to their respective output lines. This feature is particularly useful in applications such as LED displays, automated test equipment, and noise generators. The NXP 74HC4017D is a highly versatile digital IC that can find applications in a variety of fields
