Description
The Freescale MPL3115A2 is a high-precision, low-power, digital barometer and altimeter sensor. It utilizes a MEMS pressure sensor with an I2C interface to provide accurate readings of atmospheric pressure, altitude, and temperature. The MPL3115A2 can measure pressure ranging from 20kPa to 110kPa with an accuracy of ±1kPa at 25°C and altitude from -640m to 9,000m with an accuracy of ±3m. It has a low power consumption of only 1.2 μA at standby mode and can operate in a wide temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. The device also features an interrupt output pin which can be used for wake-up or timed measurements, as well as an on-chip FIFO buffer for efficient data handling. The MPL3115A2 is ideal for applications such as weather stations, altimeters, and navigation systems.
The MEMS sensor in the MPL3115A2 uses a piezoresistive sensor element to detect changes in pressure, which is converted into an electrical signal. The sensor element is integrated with an ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) inside the package to provide digital outputs that are compatible with an I2C interface. The device communicates with the host microcontroller through a standard 2-wire serial interface and supports both fast and standard modes of operation. The MPL3115A2 has a programmable oversampling ratio that allows the user to trade-off between resolution and power consumption. The device can be powered from a single 1.8V to 3.6V supply and is packaged in a compact 3mm x 3mm QFN package, making it suitable for space-constrained applications. Overall, the Freescale MPL3115A2 is a highly reliable and versatile sensor that can provide accurate and consistent measurements of pressure, altitude, and temperature over a wide range of operating conditions
